10 steps to an awesome distribution day party

With a little planning on your part, you can organize a yearbook distribution day party for fun – and profit! Whether your book delivers in the spring, summer, or fall, the distribution party is a great way to promote the yearbook.

Here’s a 10-step distribution day party plan:

1. Reserve the cafeteria or gymnasium for the day following the delivery of the book.

2. Organize the room with pickup stations, sales stations and food stations.

3. Plan decorations based on the theme of the yearbook.

4. Plan food to be served. Estimate how much soda, pizza, chips and candy will be consumed.

5. As students enter the party, collect $3.00 from each. For the price of admission, provide two tickets to exchange for food. If they wish to purchase more, offer pizza and sodas for $1.00 and chips and candy for $0.50.

6. Give students a donated pen to sign books. Instead of grabbing their book and a quick dinner, encourage them to hang around and sign books. A local insurance company, car dealership, tux shop or college are good candidates to provide pens for the advertising opportunity.

7. Feature a student band or provide recorded music over a good sound system. Make sure that one student’s musical taste does not prevail. Select a mix of songs that have a wide appeal (nothing will drive students away like bad music).

8. Sell autograph sections and protective plastic covers at one station.

9. Sell yearbooks at a separate station.

10. Begin the party at 4:00 p.m. FOR SENIORS ONLY. At 5:00 p.m., open the party to the rest of the school. End the festivities at 6:30 or 7:00 p.m.

You’re done! Celebrate.
