National Buy Your Yearbook Day (NBYYD) was created to designate a special time of the school year to focus specifically on yearbook sales. Schools across the country join together in a coordinated national event to build excitement around yearbook selling and create a sense of urgency for the yearbook. Balfour holds contests and awards prizes to schools with the best sales techniques, yearbook selling ideas and overall enthusiasm for the value that yearbooks provide.

Here are answers to the 3 most frequently asked questions about this year’s fun-filled event.

1. How can my school participate in NBYYD?

You can participate in 2 ways. Each option allows schools to receive contest and winner updates throughout the day. You can participate in both methods, or choose the one that works best for your school.

Enroll a YSM. All schools that have a Yearbook Sales Manager (YSM) enrolled will automatically be signed up. Sign up is easy. Click here to enroll. All YSMs will receive contest information via email. Emails will come from BuyTheYearbook@balfour.com.

Join the YSM Facebook Group. Yearbook Sales Managers can follow the contests on Facebook. Note that this is a closed group – members must be signed up as the YSM or adviser at their school to join.

2. What’s happening on sale day?

Similar to last year, we’ll have contests every hour (beginning early for the east coast and continuing late for the west coast). Advisers and students may enter to win prizes such as gift cards, pizza parties or giveaways. The contests may ask for a creative picture of the staff selling or a successful yearbook sales idea. Whatever it is, it will be fun, easy and a great way to keep momentum going.

3. What do I need to do to prepare?

Create excitement about Sale Day by spreading the word on campus. Plaster your school with signs, banners and flyers promoting your sale. Offer a “special” to those who buy a book on NBYYD. In the past, schools have offered food (such as a free ice cream cone), a gift-with-purchase (like a complimentary nameplate), or even a special price on sale day. No matter what you do. Make sure your yearbook price doesn’t go up until AFTER the event. This promotes an urgency to buy – and will help you increase sales on NBYYD.

Have staff bring a camera or smart-phone to school so they can participate in the contests. Remind staff they have an opportunity to win prizes. Remember, this is minimal work for you. There is no setup or fulfillment to participate (except the online signup so we have your email address). All you need to do is participate in the contests and hold a yearbook sale!
