The Ibis was named a 2019 Pacemaker Winner by the Associated Collegiate Press, Nov. 2. ACP honored the seven finalists and three winners at the Fall National College Media Convention, in Washington, D.C.
Balfour schools represented four of the seven finalists, with Baylor University, Texas A&M University, Texas Tech University and the University of Miami nominated. The national awards are for the 2018 yearbooks.
“The Pacemaker is the association’s preeminent award,” executive director Laura Widmer said. “ACP is honored to recognize the best of the best with Pacemaker honors.”
The ACP Pacemaker award, one of the oldest awards for collegiate journalism, has a rich tradition. The association began presenting the prestigious award to collegiate newspapers soon after the organization was founded in 1921. Throughout the years, yearbooks, magazines and online sites were added to the competition.
This is the seventh consecutive year the Ibis has been a Pacemaker finalist and winner. A team of three nationally recognized judges selected the seven finalists and three winners. The finalists were announced in April.
