The workload is piling up, study sessions are becoming more frequent and days are creeping closer to a much-needed break.  That's right; It's spring break season which means it's time to plan a trip.

Typically, when students begin to prepare for spring break trips, it can be easy to use default vacations at traditional hot spots such as South Padre, Miami and Panama City Beach.

Breakaway from the stereotypical spring break by exploring adventures of a lifetime. These five unique activities will take traveling to a new level.

5. Build Homes for Others

Make an impact and change lives while enjoying the time off by participating with what is known as alternative spring break. Many organizations such as United Way, Global Citizens and Habitat for Humanity offer volunteer opportunities during spring break. Making new friends, hitting nails, cutting bushes to maintain hiking trail can give you an experience of a lifetime.

4. Shop till You Drop In NYC

New York is known as the fashion capital of the world. There is fashion week, Project Runway and home of many major fashion empires all located in the city that never sleeps. Now, fashion can cost a fortune, but some places are affordable, and a can't miss:

  • Macy’s Herald Square – Known as the flagship of the department store chain and located on the famous 34th St., its 2.5 million square feet make it one of the largest department store in the world.
  • Darling – This vintage boutique located in New York has fabulous dresses and accessories. The store is great for Instagram photos and bringing back dresses no one else has.
  • O.N.A. – A standout boutique with a sidekick named Pizza creates the perfect experience for shopping with affordable pieces

3. Become One with Nature at Joshua Tree National Park

Sleep under the stars at southern California's vastly protected national state park. Two distinct ecosystems, the Mojave and Colorado, collide at Joshua Tree National Park. The home to many different plants and animals in the land created by strong winds and torrents of rain. Whether rocking climbing, hiking or camping is your hobby; Joshua Tree National Park has something for everyone. The must-see sights are:

2. Travel Back In Time at Silver Dollar City

Whether it be food, shopping or roller coasters, Silver Dollar City has it all. Located in Branson, Mo. this theme park is like none of its kind. Set in the 1880s the outside world vanishes. 1. Step Into The Best TV Shows at Warner Bros. Studio Tour

Sit on the couch that brought friends closer together, be close and personal with none other than the Batmobile, or be a part of the fantastic world of Harry Potter. Located in Burbank, Ca. Warner Bros. Studio Tour is the perfect break from reality. The most geek out spots are:

  • Central Perk Café – Sit on the couch, hold the cups and immerse in the classic 90’s sitcom
  • Batmobiles – Step into the BATCAVE where you can see all of the Batmobiles used in the celebrated film series
