Four photographers earn 2021 Photo of the Year finalist spots

Congratulations to Bridgeland High School, Maize High School and McCallum High School photographers for snagging finalist spots in the 2021 Photo of the Year competition. The National Scholastic Press Association announced finalists in five photography categories, Friday, Oct. 22.

Bridgeland’s Blake Beaver is a finalist in the Sports Game/Action photo category for a softball photo. In the Sports Feature Photo contest, two schools are finalists. Maize’s Laney Turner is a finalist with her picture from the boys basketball state championship. McCallum’s Caleb Melville earned a spot for a black and white photo of the football team. Bridgeland had a second finalist with Madie Gunn taking a spot in the Environmental Portrait category with her photograph of an orchestra student.

The Photo of the Year contest is part of NSPA’s Individual Awards. Winners will be announced virtually during the JEA/NSPA Fall National High School Journalism Convention, Saturday, Nov. 13 at 3 pm Central.
