Who says that the cheerleaders and football teams are the only folks that can have a booster club? This summer I taught yearbook sales at a couple of summer camps. One of the ideas suggested was for the yearbook staff to create a Booster Club.
Booster Clubs have been supporting sports and bands for a long time. But not the yearbook. It’s simply because parents haven’t been asked. If you were to ask a mom or dad of a yearbook staff member what their kid is most involved in, they would answer “yearbook.”
The good news is the advisers and staffers really took to the idea. The Booster Club would have three focal points: 1) Assist in selling yearbooks 2) Assist in selling ads 3) Assist in obtaining equipment for the yearbook room. The Boosters could sell books at sporting events, promote the book at shopping areas and open some doors with the principal that the student and adviser could not. It is getting tougher for students to leave campus during the day to sell, this coupled with staffs shrinking in size has made the Booster Club a great support group. Encourage your school to start a Yearbook Booster Club. It’s time to get a boost!
