Let’s Celebrate National Yearbook Week

Written by Kel Lemons | Sep 29, 2020 1:00:00 PM

The ultimate week to celebrate yearbook is almost here! National Yearbook Week is Oct. 4-10, 2020. Take advantage of this national event to celebrate the importance of yearbooks and promote your 2021 edition. And a cool bonus: eight lucky staffs will win $100 gift cards.

Ready to Play?

CONTEST 1: The Theme’s the Thing. This unique year calls for a one-of-a-kind theme. Send a visual of your creative 2020-21 yearbook theme.

CONTEST 2: Make it go Viral. Send or post your most creative promotional or staff video. Lights, camera...yearbook!

CONTEST 3: From Awesome to Zany. For you hyper-creatives, show us your most outlandish and out-of-the-box yearbook promotion!

CONTEST 4: I Miss my Peeps. We may be distanced, but we're still a staff. Show us how you're creatively staying connected!

Last year, the Timbercrest Middle School staff was one of the contest winners with this staff picture near their chalk marketing.

Amp up yearbook sales

This is the ideal week to focus on yearbook sales. NYW originated in the ’80s when President Ronald Reagan decreed the week in 1987. In the proclamation, Reagan stated “School yearbooks not only chronicle educational achievement and school tradition but are a part of them.” More than 30 years ago, the president recognized the value of yearbooks.

Now, make sure your campus does too. Use the week as an opportunity to spread the word—share themes and covers, showcase photos you’ll include, feature your staff at work. And create awesome promotions to share with the student body and us. Let’s amp up those sales!

Also, an important note: this truly is your best opportunity to promote the book. With everything going on this year, we’ve opted to focus on NYW. Balfour’s traditional National Buy Your Yearbook Day activities and contests are now part of next week’s celebrations.
