Make a commitment

Establish a love and responsibility for yearbook from the very beginning of the relationship. Consider having a yearbook wedding and vow to make a great yearbook. Don’t forget to celebrate with cake.

Now that school is in full swing and the yearbook staff is starting to realize how much work it actually takes to create a book, take some time to remind staff members they are a part of the largest (and most fun) group project on campus.

For a fun team-building activity, consider a yearbook wedding where each individual joins together as one group. They take a "vow" to make the best yearbook the school has ever seen, to devote time and energy to the project and to put forth maximum effort.

We've heard of schools creating invitations to the ceremony, wearing bad bridesmaid dresses, and celebrating with cake afterwards.

Some schools pass out little rings (purchased at a local hobby store) that students can keep as a reminder. Others have used Ring Pops as a prop and invited the principal to administer the vows. They then provide each person with a staff certificate. Whatever you do, be sure to have a photographer and take lots of photos. We'd love to see them.

This activity is a fun way to energize the staff and get them to commit (or re-commit) to the project. The possibilities are endless. As a starting point, here is a link to a variety of wedding vows, but getting the yearbook staff to write their own original vows would be the icing on the cake, so to speak.
