Three Balfour schools were recently named finalists in the National Scholastic Press Association’s middle school competition
In the Design of the Year category, three schools were recognized. Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy’s Kaylie Johnson is a finalist for her current events spread, Canyon Vista Middle School’s staff is nominated for their performances spread and Ridgeview Middle School’s Ainsley Gibson and Yasmin Martinez are finalists for the eighth grade football spread.
Ridgeview Middle School is also a finalist in two other categories. The Panther’s Amanda Miller is a Story of the Year finalist for her story about the color fun run. And Martinez is a finalist for Photo of the Year for a football action shot.
The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at the National High School Journalism Convention, Nov. 23, 2019, at the Washington Marriott Wardman Park.
