Sales techniques: They got it right

It’s the results that matter, right? After all, isn’t that the ultimate goal – to get more books into more students’ hands? Creative selling strategies can help attract attention.

See how these five schools succeeded by selling more yearbooks.

Oak-Grove-HS-Flash-Sale
Flash Sale with Big Promotion \ OAK GROVE HIGH SCHOOL
We marketed National Buy Your Yearbook Day by doing a social media blast, passing out flyers to homeroom classes a few days prior, announcements galore, an automated parent phone call recorded by one of the yearbook staffers and big signs on campus. We also offered a flash sale of $10 off the yearbook, available on sale day only. It was effective. We sold 85 yearbooks in 15 minutes. We were so busy we forgot to take a picture of the classroom filled with customers!

Stratfor-HS-Free-Food-Friday
Free Food Friday \ STRATFORD HIGH SCHOOL

We hit the streets to ask local businesses in our area to donate gift cards, so now Stratford High School yearbook hosts “Free Food Friday.” Every Friday, four students’ names are drawn at random from those who have bought their yearbooks, and those four win free food gift cards. This has resulted in about 10-20 new people each week coming to ask for an order form or going online to order the yearbook.

One-Day Sales \ SABINE PASS MIDDLE SCHOOL

We are advertising “one day only” sales throughout the year and promoting our yearbook by posting completed pages around the school!  Our yearbook sales have doubled for the year in only two months!

McAllen-HS-Yearbook-Playoffs
Yearbook Playoffs \ MCALLEN HIGH SCHOOL
In addition to our regular promotions, we have a challenge with our sister school to see which school can sell the most books by our football game. We have sold 30 more books than this time last year. Yearbook Playoffs are in effect!

Deliver a Gift to Buyers \ CANYON MIDDLE SCHOOL
Last year we gave away a highlighter, delivered in class, with a note saying when each buyer could pick up their yearbook. We had students buying yearbooks because they wanted the “gift” and something delivered to them in class. This year we plan to do a similar idea but with small magnifying glasses. Our theme is “Find Yourself.” Our plan is to market the theme and deliver small magnifying glasses with the book at end of year.
