Secrets to planning a successful yearbook signing party

Distribution-Day

Start planning your signing or distribution party now. Consider when and where it will be held and follow these tips to make it awesome.

PUT A STUDENT IN CHARGE
Let the students plan the party and choose a student leader to be the project manager. This is a perfect end-of-the-year activity for seniors.

OFFER ENTERTAINMENT
Create a music playlist and a photo show of great yearbook photos that can run in the background to set the mood. Or invite the band to play and the cheerleaders to perform.

ADVERTISE
Publicize the party. Get consumers excited about the yearbook. Have a countdown that creates hype about the arrival of the book.

OFFER INCENTIVES
Give people a reason to want to attend. For example, if you come to the party, you get your yearbook sooner or a free autograph page or a discount on next year’s book.

MAKE MONEY SELLING EXTRA BOOKS
If you have unsold books (from this and previous years) sell them at the party.

SELL ACCESSORIES
Offer accessories including plastic covers, additional autograph pages, and markers or fun pens for autographs. You might be surprised at how much money you can make from yearbook accessories.

OFFER SNACKS
Provide or sell snacks and beverages. This is another way to earn some extra cash.

PRE-SALE FOR NEXT YEAR
Offer a discount on next year’s book or provide a coupon for attendees to use later.

CHARGE ADMISSION
Some schools charge admission or sell tickets to attend the event and use the distribution party as a fundraiser. This only works if there is a reason for people to attend. It could be that the signing party is a couple of days earlier than regular distribution or it is during the school day. Find a way to make it special.
