Unexpected snow and Christmas lights. Pumpkin spice lattes and holiday getaways. Chilly weather and winter breaks are the perfect excuses for seasonal coverage. Bring on the winter wonderland spreads!

Share the warmth Feature students’ favorite wintertime beverages. Peppermint cocoa, pumpkin spice lattes and caramel macchiatos can make for beautiful photos.

Bundle up Take a wintry twist on the fashion spread and feature cold-weather options. Boots are an easy choice, showcasing popular and unusual styles. Vibrant scarves and goofy hats share students’ personalities.

Light it up Feature the town’s holiday lights, iconic house displays or teachers’ door decorations.

The Zilker tree, an Austin holiday landmark, became the focus of Canyon Vista Middle School’s winter break spread.

Holiday bonanza It’s not just about Christmas. Celebrate different cultures, featuring students who celebrate Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and Chinese New Year.

Give me a break With two weeks off, there should plenty of traveling and staycations to cover.

Warm up with hot locales If your town is buried in snow, consider covering the warmer travels of some of your jet-setters.

Let it snow If you’re unexpectedly buried in snow, add a winter weather spread and rejoice in the snowball pictures.

We know you may not have planned for a winter weather spread. But maybe consult your ladder to see if it’s more worthy than another planned topic. If not, consider shrinking the idea to fit in the people section or the index.

It’s cold and dark outside, but it doesn’t have to bleak. Join in the holiday spirit by spreading some of that tinsel into the yearbook.
