Yearbook Index: more than just names & numbers

02.27.2015-1
As a reference tool, readers go to the index to find content (people, sports, clubs, classes, etc.). But it can be more than a sea of type.

Think of the index as an opportunity to expand coverage and get more students in the book. For example, consider a mash-up of a letter & a picture of a student whose name begins with the letter. Try covering current events that affect students’ lives, and include quotes offering their perspectives. When designing the index, make sure the visual motifs reflect the theme’s message and/or design. The index may also serve as place to run group shots. After all, they are reference material, too.
