We love a good challenge! Show off a great spread design from your yearbook. Or, even better, get a jumpstart on designing your 2021 book. Here is an assignment that will engage your students to hone their design skills.
With software available to you, design one double-page spread for a section of the yearbook. Then, enter your spread to the GREAT DESIGN contest for an opportunity to win prizes.
What we are looking for:
- Layout follows good design principles. See Delicious Design for a great design lesson.
- Layout includes a headline, subhead, copy blocks, captions, modules and photo placeholders.
- Copy or captions are dummy (fill) text with your choice of fonts and point sizes.
- Headline is an appropriate font, size and style for the subject.
- Placeholder areas for photos—Images are not required
- Includes secondary coverage to support the spread topic. See our feature on modules for more storytelling opportunities.
We’ll select two winners: first place receives a $100 gift card and honorable mention, a $50 gift card.
It doesn’t matter what yearbook company you work with—all student yearbook staffers age 13 and older are eligible. The contest runs April 20 to May 8. One entry per student. #balfourgreatdesign
